Accident in Cheektowaga causes power outage

A power outage continues in the wake of a Monday morning car crash in Cheektowaga.

More than 3,400 customers of New York State Electric & Gas were affected when a car hit a utility pole on Cayuga Creek Road, near Fronckowiak Avenue, at about 6:40 a.m.

According to Cheektowaga police, the driver was a Depew woman in her 30s and the accident was caused by driver inattention. The driver, whose name wasn’t released, wasn’t injured and won’t face charges, police said.

The outage continues to affect NYSEG customers in the Towns of Cheektowaga, Elma and Lancaster, and the Village of Depew. A spokesman for the utility couldn’t be reached to comment on when service would be restored.
