Where we live: Lackawanna

Walk among a sea of hydrangeas, roses and lilies Fridays in July as Buffalo’s Open Garden Festival touches down in the Bedford Avenue garden of Linda Monaco.

The event, which features a bevy of public and private gardens, is in its sixth year. The Monaco garden, at 64 Bedford, is the only one on display in Lackawanna, and can be viewed from noon to 6 p.m. Fridays through July 31.

The 200-foot space is half sun and half shade, and is a perennial-lovers dream. Pathways, archways and a trellis define the garden, which is anchored by a 60-foot maple tree and a large Koi pond.

To get a full list of the 90 participating public and private gardens, visit Booklets are available for purchase at Buffalo Botanical Gardens, 2655 South Park Ave., or Lockwood Garden Center, 4484 Clark St., Hamburg.
