A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for Sunday afternoon through 11 p.m. for all of Western New York – and much of the rest of the state as well.
“We just issued a severe thunderstorm watch,” said National Weather Service meteorologist Steve Welch meteorologist just before 3:30 p.m.
A cold front moving in the area is causing instability that may cause sudden, severe thunderstorms ahead of the front, he said.
There’s also a flash flood watch in effect until 11 p.m. for Western New York. Areas could see up to a quarter inch of rain.
But after the storms, Buffalo Niagara can look forward to some mild temperatures, with highs in the 70s.
