Volunteers with the American Red Cross will distribute clean up kits in both Allegany and Chautauqua Counties from 2 to 7 p.m. Friday, following Tuesday’s severe weather and flooding.
The distribution sites will be at Swain Resort, 2275 County Road 24, and Westfield Central School, 203 East Main Street. The kits include mops, buckets, bleach, and rubber gloves. The Salvation Army will also provide meals at Westfield Central School.
More than 5 inches of rain fell in a two-hour period on Tuesday causing devastating flooding from Silver Creek to Westfield. Allegany County roads were also affected by the storm Tuesday afternoon, and as a result some could take up to a month to repair. Volunteers at Westfield Central School handed out 113 clean up kits as of 4 p.m. Thursday, and the Brocton Fire Department distributed roughly 80 Red Cross clean up kits.
Silver Creek residents should call 934-3240 to schedule a pickup.
