Lockport robbery victim grabs suspect’s gun and car keys

LOCKPORT – A resident of The Woodlands in the Town of Lockport, who was robbed at gunpoint early Thursday, turned the tables on the suspect by grabbing his weapon and car keys, Niagara County sheriff’s deputies reported.

Somebody called 911 at 3:17 a.m. to report a possible robbery at the mobile home park on South Transit Road. Deputies learned the suspect, Greg Longwell, had telephoned the victim and said he needed to talk.

When the victim went outside and got into Longwell’s car, he was robbed at gunpoint, deputies said. But the victim grabbed the gun from Longwell, as well as his car keys, and went back into his home, while Longwell took off on foot.

Longwell was taken into custody several hours later, authorities reported. Further information was to be released later Thursday.
