Health officials seek information on dog attack

MAYVILLE — Chautauqua County health officials are seeking a fisherman who assisted a man being attacked by a dog on the trails around the Chadakoin Park at 3 p.m. on July 14.

The Good Samaritan was described as a 6-foot, 3-inch tall man, weighing about 240 pounds, with blond hair, wearing blue jean shorts and a red shirt.

The man may have been bitten while helping to pull the dog off the bite victim, officials said. The dog was described as a large brown pit bull with no collar. The fisherman heard the bite victim’s screams and ran to assist, officials said.

Anyone with information on the attack, the Good Samaritan or the suspect dog is asked to contact the Environmental Health Division of the Chautauqua County Department of Health and Human Services at 753-4489 or the Sheriff’s Office at 753-4232 after regular hours.
