The First Ward Falcon Club of Dunkirk is hosting its 40th annual men’s fast-pitch softball tournament this weekend. The event is believed to be one of the longest-running fast-pitch tournaments in the nation.
A field of 16 teams ranging from Lackawanna, Dunkirk, Westfield, Pennsylvania and Canada will begin play with three games Friday starting at 5:45 p.m. at Promenschenkel Stadium at Dunkirk’s Wright Park. Saturday’s action begins at 9 a.m. and runs all day; Sunday games begin at 9 a.m. with the championship at 3 p.m.

GOLF: The Niagara-Buffalo Deaf Golf Association is organizing a tournament for scratch and handicap deaf and hearing-aid deaf golfers (male and female). According to organizers, the event will either be Aug. 12-14 or Aug. 19-21; the location will be either Glen Oak or Chestnut Hill. Cost is $75 per golfer plus greens and cart fees each day.
