South Buffalo Kids Duathlon to raise money for youth hockey trip

The second annual Kids Duathlon will take place Saturday to help the Cazenovia Chiefs Pee Wee Major Hockey team travel to Toronto for a tournament.

The Kids Duathlon is open to children ages 5 to 14.

The first heat starts at noon. The kids will run a half mile through Cazenovia Park, then transition onto their bikes for a 1-mile bike ride through the park, followed by an additional half mile run with the finish line at the Cazenovia Park Casino.

Participants will be timed within their age groups: 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14. Awards will be presented to the top three individuals with the best time in their age groups for both males and females.

Participants can choose to compete as a team of two, with each teammate completing either both running sections or the biking leg of the race. Awards will also be presented to the fastest team for both males, females, or coed within their age groups: 5-7, 8-10, or 11-14.

A post-duathlon party will include food, refreshments, music, a basket raffle, 50/50 drawing, a free rock climbing wall and family friendly fun.

The kids duathlon promotes exercise and healthy competition in the South Buffalo community. All are welcome to attend to cheer on the young athletes. The cost to register is $20 per individual or $24 for teams until Saturday; after that, the price goes up by $2 per person. Register at CazKidsDuathlon.com or by emailing CazDuathlon@gmail.com.
