Front page July 15, 1915: Fate of Cradle Beach rests on $5,000

Among the local news on the day's front page:

"Hutchinson is high in 'NEWS' primary"

"The NEWS herewith presents the result of its Preference Primary to date, with the vote received for each preference up to but not including those votes which were received this morning. On Saturday the list will again be published with the result to date."

Further down was an article exhorting support for the Fresh Air Mission, which was how Cradle Beach was known in its early years.

"Issue appeal for fresh air mission fund: Unless at least $5000 is raised soon home at Angola must close"

"Americans have been generous to a fault this year. The crying conditions of Europe have called forth their almost unlimited financial assistance. The overshadowing events in the war-ridden continent, however, have caused many people to lose sight of pressing needs -- and golden opportunities -- at home.

"But, having tasted the joy of giving, there is every reason to believe they will respond quickly and generously to the appeal of the Fresh Air mission, the vacation home of poor and unfortunate kiddies, and one of the most worthy charities in this city."
