More than 1,500 veterans and their families are expected to attend the New York State American Legion’s 97th annual convention this week in Buffalo.
The convention runs from Wednesday through Saturday at the Hyatt Regency Buffalo. Several issues affecting veterans, including the treatment of post-traumatic stress and monitoring the Veterans Affairs healthcare system, will be discussed.
The event also includes annual recognition of a high school cadet, an Eagle Scout, first responders from law enforcement and fire departments, top employers that hire veterans and a Legionnaire, among others. A new state commander for 2015-16 will be elected before the convention ends.
Concurrently, the American Legion Auxiliary and Sons of the American Legion are holding conventions in the Adam’s Mark Hotel.
