If you think you can’t get a really good hamburger in Hamburg, Andrew Murtha is out to change your mind.
Murtha, a former Tempo executive chef, is taking the reins of three Hamburg restaurants. The first to reopen will be Bistro in the Square, 1 Buffalo St., which Murtha aims to relaunch as “a nice little burger joint, which doesn’t exist in Hamburg, strangely enough,” he said.
Its new name is Juicy. The grand opening for the tuned-up restaurant will be July 18, which is the day of Hamburg’s Burger Fest.
As general manager and executive chef for the Hamburg Hospitality Group, Murtha will also be working on Buffalo Street Grill, 61 Buffalo St., and Buffalo Sports Grill, 4923 Southwestern Blvd.
Murtha was the chef at South Buffalo’s Brick Oven Bistro before being hired at Tempo, the celebrated Delaware Avenue fine dining restaurant. He left there in May, Murtha said.
