Buffalo native Sarah Giancola was part of the bronze-medal winning women’s lightweight sculls at the Pan-American Games Tuesday at St. Catharines, Ontario.
Giancola and teammate Victoria Burke took third in 7 minutes, 3.86 seconds, behind winner Canada (6:57.23) and Cuba (7:00.36).
The 24-year-old was born in Fort Erie and grew up in Buffalo, attending Park School and learning her sport at the West Side Rowing Club before attending Northeastern University. The three-time national team member (she previously was on the under-23 team in 2013 and the senior team in 2014) now lives in Los Angeles.
Giancola is back in action at the Pan-Am Games on Wednesday when she competes in the quad sculls.
