Front page July 13, 1915: Canal funding campaign set to begin

Among the local news on the day's front page:

"State campaign for canal funds will begin soon"

"The Barge Canal Referendum Conference committee met in New York yesterday afternoon at the offices of the New York State Chamber of Commerce in Liberty street. Plans were discussed, said Howard J. Smith, secretary of the Western Elevating company, who arrived home this morning, for the campaign which is to be conducted to arouse the voters in this state to favor the additional bond issues for completing the Barge canal."

"Steel plant at Lackawanna is in full blast"

"Conditions in the steel trade are so favorable at the present time that the large establishments in the Pittsburgh district and the Lackawanna Steel company here are rushing orders as fast as plant facilities will permit.

"The Lackawanna Steel company, it was stated today by an official of the company, is operating almost at its capacity. Upwards of 5000 men are at work, and there is a strong belief that conditions will continue to improve."
