The West Side Rowing Club won the points trophy at its 102nd annual Invitational Regatta Sunday on the Black Rock Canal.
Although the St. Catharines Rowing Club won more events, 13 to the nine for the host club, the points trophy is decided by a weighted system.
Three West Side women’s eights, the U19, U17 and Masters, won their finals. Also a Mixed Masters Eight from the West Side comprised of male and female rowers, won its race.
St. Catharines swept all three races for Men’s Eights but the West Side men won two of the four finals for four-oared boats.
The South Niagara (Ont.) Rowing Club won one race, the Women’s Open Singles.
Crews from the Buffalo Scholastic Rowing Association, Narragansett Boat Club (R.I.) and Rochester Junior Rowing also competed
Following the regatta the second annual College Fair was held. Scholastic rowers entering their senior years had the opportunity to meet with representatives of college rowing programs.
WSRC crews will be back in action next weekend at the St. Catharines Invitational, followed by the ROW ONTARIO Championships July 25-26. The season will conclude with the 133rd Royal Canadian Henley Regatta Aug. 1-9.
