ZUVICH, Crane N.

ZUVICH - Crane N. 85, the wife of Jerome (Jerry) Zuvich, of Lakewood, New Jersey, passed peacefully Wednesday Evening following a prolonged illness. Born Crane Nichols in Manhattan in 1930 she was a graduate of Drew University in Madison New Jersey and held an MA in Experimental Psychology from The New School for Social Research in New York. As a Criminal Psychologist in the 1970's, Crane oversaw programs for the Morris County Jail's Criminal Rehabilitation efforts under the office of the Sheriff. Her research papers housed at the Criminal Justice Library at John Jay College, published under her then name of Crane Groesbeck, provided strategic direction in criminal rehabilitation. With her passion for horticulture, Crane was a long time member of the Herb Society and served as President of the Northern New Jersey Chapter from 1993-1995. She volunteered for both the The Wick House gardens in Morristown and Rutgers Garden in New Brunswick. Known as "Fritzie" to close family and friends, Crane's given name derives from the surname of early New Jersey settlers and her maternal ancestor, Keturah Crane. A competitive swimmer in her youth, Crane was a featured performer in the Water Follies in the 1940's. In addition to her husband Jerry, Crane is survived by two sons, Richard William Ferris and his wife Nancy of New Providence NJ and Harris Nichols Ferris and his wife Janet of Pittsburgh, PA; a brother, Harris Nichols of Buffalo, NY; and two grandchildren, Jared and Erica. A memorial service will be Saturday, July 18 at 10:00 AM at D'ELIA FUNERAL HOME, Lakewood NJ 732-363-1987, Relatives and friends will be received from 9:00 AM until the time of the memorial service at the funeral home.
