Garden Notes: News of area clubs and events

The 14th annual Samuel P. Capen Garden Walk of more than 70 private gardens and public spaces is planned from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in the University District of Buffalo, Eggertsville and Amherst neighborhoods surrounding the University at Buffalo’s South Campus. The event is free. Maps will be available at the UB Anderson Gallery, 1 Martha Jackson Place, off Englewood south of Kenmore Avenue, and the University Community Farmers Market, Main Street and Kenmore Avenue. The Amherst Garden Walk is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Maps to the free walk are available at Menne Nursery, 3100 Niagara Falls Blvd., Amherst, and Arbordale Nurseries, 480 Dodge Road, Getzville. On Saturday, they will be available at 111 Campus Drive West, Snyder.

The 11th annual Lockport In Bloom will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. A Twilight in the Garden walk is scheduled for 6:30 to 9 p.m. Saturday only. Maps/brochures can be picked up tour days at the headquarters at the Kenan Center, 433 Locust St., Lockport, by the Taylor Theater. The 11th annual Buzz Around Hamburg Garden Walk will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Maps for this free event will be available at the Memorial Park Band Stand, corner of Lake and Union streets, Village of Hamburg. Garden vendors will be in the park both days. Four local garden clubs will present a Standard Flower Show, “Let’s Celebrate,” at the Hamburg Community Center, 107 Prospect Ave, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in conjunction with the Hamburg Garden Walk (see above). Admission is free.

The 13th annual Snyder-CleveHill Garden View is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday; approximately 25 private gardens and public spaces in the Snyder and Cleveland Hill neighborhoods will open for viewing. The American Rose Society will present “Growing Roses” at the Evans Garden Club’s annual picnic at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Bluffs on Old Lakeshore Road, Derby. The picnic will follow at 7 p.m. Members are asked to bring a dish to pass. For more information, call 549-0598.

Federated Holland Garden Club will meet at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday at the Holland United Methodist Church to car-pool to Bonnie Bullivant’s gardens on Burritt Road, Hilton. After a guided tour, members will have lunch at the Arlington Dining Room, 4 Main St. Following lunch, club members will continue to the Stettner Homestead Flower Fields cutting garden with horticulturist Nellie Gardner on Gillett Road, Spencerport.
