City of Lackawanna receives $536,000 grant to hire firefighters

The City of Lackawanna will receive more than $536,000 in federal funding to pay for four firefighters for the next two years, officials announced Friday.

One firefighter will be added to each of the city fire department’s four platoons, increasing the department’s overall staffing by almost 10 percent.

The money comes from the Department of Homeland Security’s Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response grant program, Sens. Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten M. Gillibrand announced.
