A worker burned Thursday morning as he was trying to fix an oven was in fair condition in Erie County Medical Center on Thursday afternoon, according to Cheektowaga police.
The maintenance employee at Culinary Art’s Specialties, 2268 Union Road, suffered burns to his hands, chest and face, said Assistant Police Chief James Speyer.
There was likely a buildup of gas as the employee was working and then a flash which caused the man to suffer the burns, Speyer said.
There was no fire and no damage in the incident reported shortly before 8:30 a.m., he said.
According to the company’s website, the business specializes in cheesecake and desserts. The Cheektowaga building also houses the corporate headquarters.
The business was founded in 1982 by Arthur P. Keller, a Swiss pastry chef by trade. His son, Arthur L., is the current president and chief executive officer.
