John C. Vaughn, sixth-generation member of Springville family

May 10, 1927 – July 4, 2015

John C. Vaughn, a lifelong resident on Vaughn Street in Springville, died Saturday. He was 88.

He was a part of the sixth generation of the Vaughn family, who settled in Springville in 1809. He and his wife raised five children – and a menagerie of pets – on the family farm.

He graduated from Springville High School and ran that farm in his youth. Vaughn went on to report and write for The Springville Journal. He later drove trucks for Dash Dairy and Mahl Bros. Oil in Springville before owning and operating a refrigeration business. He eventually retired from working as an electrician for Aronson Machine in Arcade in 1989.

His wife, the former Jacqueline Dell, died in 2014.

Survivors include three sons, John Duncan, Holt and Charles; two daughters, Margarethe Lenz and Kimberlie Brayman; and 11 grandchildren.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Smith-Weismantel Funeral Home, 271 E. Main St., Springville.
