Rich Products’ plant in Fort Erie remained closed on Wednesday, as an investigation continued into a fatal accident that occurred Monday.
Employees were cleaning up parts of the frozen dough products plant, which workers evacuated on Monday after an ammonia leak.
An employee of a contractor who had been working in the area where the leak occurred was found critically injured on Monday and was later pronounced dead. Two other workers suffered minor injuries. Niagara Regional Police and Ministry of Labour investigators were inside the plant on Wednesday, said Dwight Gram, a Rich Products spokesman.
Gram said it is not yet known when the Fort Erie plant will resume production, which was suspended at the time of the accident. The cause of the accident has not been undetermined.
