Falls woman sentenced in prostitution case

LOCKPORT - A Niagara Falls woman who procured a 15-year-old girl for sex after getting her addicted to crack cocaine was sentenced Wednesday to 5 1/3 to 10 years in prison, followed by 10 years of post-release supervision.

The girl died Jan. 21, the day the procurer was arraigned in Niagara County Court, of what her mother said was an accidental drug overdose. She had turned 16 shortly before her death.

Jessica Carli, 28, of 80th Street, had pleaded guilty to second-degree promoting prostitution and third-degree criminal sexual act, the latter for having sex with the girl herself.

Deputy District Attorney Holly E. Sloma said Carli might have been convicted of charges carrying a 25-year maximum sentence if the girl were alive to testify.

After befriending the girl following the girl’s release from drug rehab, Carli introduced her to crack and then from last August to October, posted naked photos of the girl on Craigslist to lure customers to have sex with the girl so she could earn money to buy more crack, Sloma said.

“A 15-year-old girl and you had her prostituting herself with these old men? It’s disgusting,” Judge Sara Sheldon said.

Defense attorney Dominic Saraceno said the girl overdosed on fentanyl, not crack. He said it was a case of “two very dysfunctional train wrecks hanging out with each other.”
