Area to get new team in Premier Basketball League

Donald Felice of A.N.D Sports & Entertainment in Lewiston has been awarded an expansion franchise for the 2015-16 season in Premier Basketball League.

The team will be called the WNY Thundersnow, according to a PBL announcement Wednesday after the league meeting in Chicago earlier in the week.

The Rochester Razorsharks are the reigning PBL champions and Felice hopes to build a rivalry with the Razorsharks..

“We are very excited about being a part of the PBL,” Felice said. “Joining the PBL creates an opportunity to keep professional basketball in Niagara County with an established and credible league. Niagara County loves basketball and our team will provide exciting and competitive professional basketball for the city. Since I am a native of the area, I am committed to our community. Our basketball organization will be partnering with local organizations and schools in the community to promote life skills, team building and leadership.”

A home playing venue for the Thundersnow was not announced.

The Buffalo 716ers left the PBL recently to join the American Basketball Association.
