NOW SEE THIS – Detect eye problems early when treatment is easiest. The Orchard Park Lions Club will host free annual screening for children up to 5 years old from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on July 18 at the Pediatric & Adolescent Urgent Care of Western New York, 3055 Southwestern Blvd., Orchard Park. The event is part of the Lions International Screening Eyes Early, or SEE, program. The Orchard Park club has screened more than 250 children at a time over the last three years. Confidential results are mailed out from the Ross Eye Center of Buffalo.

PET FRIENDLY – The Heart of Niagara Animal Rescue is seeking basket donations for its summer picnic, set for July 18. WHAT’S OLD IS NEW – Explore Buffalo’s new bus tours of the city’s historic and architectural landmarks will be offered at 10:30 a.m. and noon Friday and Saturday. Bus tours of the city’s waterfront and South Buffalo will be offered at 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Tickets are $25, or $20 for students and season pass-holders.

RIDE AROUND FALLS STATE PARK – An evening river bike tour is slated for 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Niagara Falls State Park. The free program will be offered by a naturalist from the state Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Office, who will lead participants along the Niagara Gorge to Devil’s Hole State Park and back to Niagara Falls State Park. Participants may stay and enjoy fireworks following the ride. Preregistration is required by calling 282-5154.

TURN THE PAGE – The Town of Lockport and Lockport Library’s summer reading program begins at 10 a.m. Friday at Day Road Park, corner of Day Road and East High Street. MORE MUSIC – An all-star group of local musicians recently formed a band known as Dead Flowers. They’re set to headline the You Get What You Need benefit concert for the Food Bank of Western New York at 8 p.m. Friday at the Cove Seafood & Banquets, 4701 Transit Road, Depew. Geoff Boulden, Bob Kupczyk, Bill Moore, Bob Rick III and Gary Zoldos will be paying a tribute to the Rolling Stones. Donations for the Food Bank will be accepted at the door.
