Check out 5 video games to play this summer when weather gets dreary

Even though it’s summer, dreary weather can kick in at any time. To combat the stuck-inside blues, why not pick out a new video game?

This summer, the gaming world is offering some interesting firsts, as well as sequels and prequels from fantasy to historical action games. There’s something for everyone.

Batman: Arkham Knight and FIFA 16 are wins for female gamers, offering each brand’s first playable female characters. Cinema fans can relive “Jurassic World” and “Mad Max.” And gamers already invested in their favorite series can look forward to continuations from a plethora of brands.

Lowdown: The first ever Batman game to receive a “Mature” rating also offers two other firsts: the Batmobile will be a playable vehicle and preorder customers have the option to download Harley Quinn as a playable character. The storyline is set one year after Batman: Arkham City, released in 2011, and follows Batman as he is aided by the Arkham Knight, an original character created for the game, to defeat Scarecrow and the band of villains attempting to take over Gotham City.

Lowdown: The impressive point about Mighty No. 9 is that its minimum Kickstarter goal of $900,000 was raised in just two days, but additional goals, including more stages and special modes and ports to other platforms, were confirmed after over 400 percent of the original goal was reached. The game itself is focused on old-school 2-D and 3-D graphics in a blend of artwork and animation. Players follow Beck, the protagonist, and play through groups of stages with a boss fight at the end of each grouping, leading up to a final boss battle at the end of the game.

Lowdown: The post-apocalyptic game takes place about 200 years after a nuclear war over resources. The playable character takes shelter in Vault 111 with his family and wakes up 200 years later as the only survivor in the vault. Gameplay will be similar to Fallout 3 in regard to camera angles, weaponry and enemies. However, players will now have the ability to construct settlements, buildings and defenses for themselves in-game, which nonplayable characters can live in.
