Sabres hire Kelowna's Lambert as assistant coach

Dan Lambert had immediate success as a junior hockey coach. That career is over. He's with the Sabres now.

Buffalo coach Dan Bylsma has added Lambert as the third assistant to his staff, with the 45-year-old joining Terry Murray and Dave Barr. The former Kelowna bench boss was on the ice with the Sabres' prospects Monday during the opening day of development camp.

Lambert led Kelowna to a 53-13-6 record and the Western Hockey League title last season. The Manitoba native was an assistant with Kelowna for five seasons before taking over.

The Quebec Nordiques drafted Lambert in the sixth round of the 1989 Draft. He played 29 NHL games, recording six goals and 15 points. He also played professionally in Finland and Germany.
