Francis James Landers, a former auto dealer, died in a car crash on Tuesday in Barker. He was 79.
Mr. Landers, who went by “Jim,” was born in Gasport. He had a passion for automobiles and people, and spent his working life immersed in both.
Mr. Landers started his career in 1960 working as a salesman for Maroone Ford. He bought Howell Motors in Newfane in 1978, and moved it 10 years later to Wrights Corners.
Mr. Landers received the Ford President’s Award in 2007. He was a member of the Western New York Ford Dealers, New York State Auto Dealers Association and Niagara Frontier Auto Dealers Association.
Mr. Landers enjoyed playing cards, auto racing and collecting older cars, and was an avid fan of the Bills, Sabres and Yankees.
Survivors include his wife, the former Onnalee Dysinger; three daughters, Lorie Simons, Kim Yates and Dawn Greenlief; two sons, Michael and Jeffrey; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday in Wrights Corners Fire Company, 4043 Lake Ave., Lockport.
