Mary M. Russo, longtime lawyer

February 11, 1952 - July 2, 2015

Mary M. Russo of East Amherst, the senior and founding partner of the Williams & Williams law firm, died Thursday in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, Amherst. She was 63.

Born in Buffalo, the former Mary Meyer earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Buffalo in 1974, and went on to earn her law degree from UB in 1977.

Mrs. Russo, who spent close to 40 years practicing law as a senior and founding partner of Williams & Williams, is credited with making groundbreaking advancements for women in law in the Buffalo community.

She was active in the New York Bar Association and served as president for the Torts, Insurance and Compensation law division. Mrs. Russo also was a member of the Erie County Bar Association, New York Self-Insurance Association and served on the University of Buffalo Law Review. She enjoyed birdwatching, reading, stargazing, and rock collecting.

She also was a longtime parishioner of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church.

Survivors include her husband of 37 years, Mark P.; a daughter Elizabeth Moellering; one son, Michael; a sister Carol Meyer; two brothers, John Meyer and Joseph Meyer; and two grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in St. Gregory the Great Church, 200 St. Gregory Court at Maple Road, Amherst.
