Grandfather drowns after falling from personal watercraft into Lake Ontario

PORTER – A man riding a personal watercraft with his grandson drowned after falling from the craft about 150 yards from shore of Lake Ontario about 7 p.m. Saturday, Niagara County sheriff’s deputies said.

Deputies and others attempted CPR on the unidentified man, who was retrieved from the lake, but he was pronounced dead in Mount St. Mary’s Hospital, Lewiston, authorities said. The victim fell from the watercraft while it stationary but was unable to get back onboard, even with the help of the grandson, who went for help, deputies added.

The Niagara County Criminal Investigation Bureau and Niagara County Marine Division are investigating.
