Falls woman flagged in unreturned rental car faces drug charges

NIAGARA FALLS – A 20th Street woman arrested Friday afternoon is accused of driving a stolen car – an unreturned rental vehicle, Niagara Falls police said.

Police said a plate reader tipped them off to the car, parked in the 1400 block of Pine Avenue about 4 p.m. Friday. Officers put the red Toyota with Georgia plates under surveillance until a woman left a nearby building and drove off in the car. She was stopped a short distance away.

Alejandrina Torres, 35, was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, second-degree criminal possession of stolen property, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marijuana. Police said a search of the vehicle turned up a marijuana blunt as well as marijuana in the suspect’s purse. Officers also said they found 33 hydrocodone tablets in an unmarked container.
