Man stabbed in Lackawanna incident to undergo further surgery; no arrest imminent

Lackawanna Police Chief James Michel Jr., in an update Thursday, said an arrest is not imminent in the stabbing death Wednesday of a Madison Avenue woman.

All leads are being followed, Michel said.

“We believe that this is an isolated incident and the area residents are safe,” Michel said.

Two individuals were stabbed, one fatally, early Wednesday morning, police reported.

Ashley Whiting, 21, of 135 Madison Ave., died from multiple stab wounds. Daniel Whiting, 27, her husband, suffered several stab wounds and was taken by ambulance to Erie County Medical Center.

Daniel Whiting, who is in critical condition, was to undergo further surgery Thursday, the chief said.

He also underwent surgery Wednesday, and the police chief said then he was expected to survive.

Two young children in the house were unharmed.
