Rep. Chris Collins announced grants Thursday that will help fire companies in Niagara and Wyoming counties purchase new equipment for firefighters.
The payments include $65,315 to Bergholz Volunteer Fire Company in Niagara County and $17,143 to Bennington Volunteer Fire Company in Wyoming County. The grants came from the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.
“Receiving this grant is a huge accomplishment for our fire company,” Bergholz Chief Mark Stevens said. “The funding will equip our firefighters with up-to-date turnout equipment and allow us to safely and efficiently accomplish our firefighting duties.”
Bennington Chief Jim Dick said the money will buy “12 complete sets of firefighter turnout gear, to include the turnout coat and bunker pants. The award of these grant funds will provide our personnel with the highest standards of gear available today, which will enhance our ability to serve and protect our community.”
