Ex-UB catcher named to Team USA for Pan Am Games

Former University at Buffalo catcher Tom Murphy was named to the USA Pan American Games baseball team roster, announced Monday. Murphy will compete for the starting position with Eric Fryer, who plays for the Minnesota Twins Triple-A affiliate, Rochester Red Wings.

Murphy is playing for the New Britain Rock Cats, the Double-A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies and owns a .253 batting average with 11 homers, 41 RBIs and 16 doubles through 68 games.

The U.S. team will train from July 4-8 in Cary, N.C. and will face Puerto Rico in a first-round game on July 11 in Toronto.
