Buffalo motorist swallows marijuana after traffic stop, deputies say

A 32-year-old Buffalo man swallowed a package of marijuana as deputies stopped him near Black Rock Canal Park, according to the Erie County Sheriff’s Office.

Two deputies were checking the area at about 5:45 p.m. Tuesday when they pulled over a vehicle leaving the park, a sheriff’s spokesman said.

While conducting a check on the driver, Elliott Strode, one deputy noticed a package in his hand, the spokesman said. As the other deputy returned to the vehicle, Strode swallowed the package.

Strode struggled with deputies as they removed him from the vehicle and took him into custody, the spokesman said. A search of the vehicle turned up crack cocaine.

Strode was charged with a felony count of concealing/destroying physical evidence, as well as misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest, criminal possession of a controlled substance and obstructing governmental administration. He’s in the county holding center, awaiting a court appearance.
