After police found a loaded 9 mm Smith and Wesson handgun near a garage on Northampton Street Saturday, they arrested a 19-year-old who had gotten out of a car and walked to the place where the gun was found.
Police said they were investigating a robbery in which a blue car was involved when they began following a light blue Impala on Northampton Street. The driver pulled the car over abruptly half a block from Fillmore Avenue and two men got out, they said.
The first man, Markeel Hilson, 19, of Oxford Avenue, walked to the side of a Northampton Street house, then returned to the front.
In searching the area where Hilson had gone, police found the handgun in the garage. Hilson was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a felony.
Shaquelle Coleman, 22, of Jones Street, left the driver’s side of the vehicle and entered the Northampton Street house without permission of the owner. He, too, was arrested, but the police report did not specify the charges against him.
