Woman charged after car crashes into church

GAINESVILLE – A 29-year-old Warsaw woman was arrested Tuesday evening after the car she was driving swerved off State Route 19 in the Wyoming County Town of Gainesville and crashed into a church.

The Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department reports Emily C. Brown was driving under the influence of drugs when her car crashed into the Rock Glen Baptist Church, doing “significant” damage to the foundation. The sheriff’s department said eyewitnesses had spotted a car driving erratically northbound on State Route 19 before it left the road, returned to the road and into the lane of oncoming traffic and then off the road, driving across the parking lot before hitting the back of the church shortly after 7 p.m.

Brown was taken to Wyoming County Community Hospital for treatment of minor injuries and then charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, reckless driving, speeding and making an unsafe lane change.

Brown was scheduled to return to the Town of Gainesville Court June 22.
