Erie County water customers warned about phony workers

Erie County Water Authority customers are being warned to be leery of people coming to their homes posing as water meter workers.

Matthew J. Baudo, the authority’s deputy administrative director, said authority meter service workers always travel in blue and white vehicles with an authority decal on both sides, all wear a blue uniform with an authority emblem and all carry a photo identification badge. He said customers must confirm all three of those visible forms of identification before letting someone come into their home in order to read or work on their water meter.

If the proper identification is not displayed, customers should immediately shut their door and call 911 or call the authority’s customer service department at 849-8484 during business hours or 685-8235 at night and on weekends.
