A child was struck by a pickup truck Monday evening as he was rushing to a Mr. Softee ice creak truck on Philadelphia Street in the Riverside section, police and neighbors said.
The ice cream truck was making its daily run at about 7:30 p.m. when the incident occurred.
Neighbors said the injured boy’s father came out worried that his pet dog had been struck by a car but quickly began screaming in panic “My son!, my son!” when he saw his boy in the street.
The 3-year-old boy was rushed to Women and Children’s Hospital, authorities said. Police said his injuries appeared to be non-life threatening.
The driver of the pickup, whose name was not released, was held for questioning by police.
The GMC Serra was impounded at about 9 p.m. for testing. As of late Monday evening no criminal charges had been filed
