A 26-year-old member of Buffalo’s 10th Street Gang was ordered to serve a term of up to 71 months in federal prison by U.S. Judge Richard J. Arcara Monday. Jairo Hernandez was recently convicted of a racketeering-related conspiracy charge and possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking.
Hernandez is one of 44 members of the gang or their associates convicted as a result of an investigation into the gang’s murderous West Side drug dealing by the New York State Police, Buffalo Police and the FBI.
Hernandez was an active gang member between 2000 and 2010, according to prosecutors Joseph M. Tripi and John M. Alsup. Hernandez, while armed, personally sold marijuana, cocaine, crack cocaine and scores of other controlled substances to West Side residents, the prosecutors said.
