Two hit by gunfire from assault rifle in Niagara Falls

NIAGARA FALLS – Nineteen bullet casings from an assault rifle were recovered at the scene of the shooting of two males in the 1900 block of Niagara Street about 4:30 a.m. Saturday, Niagara Falls police said.

Both victims, who have not been identified, were taken to Erie County NMedical Center, Buffalo. One was undergoing surgery and listed in critical condition and the other, in stable condition, police said.

Both were together at the time of the shooting, when one of the victims returned fire unsuccessfully with a .45 Colt revolver, police added, That weapon has been recovered, police said.

Detectives currently are attempting to locate persons of interest in the case, police said.
