Showers, thunderstorms bring a noticeable chill to the region

If change is your thing, then the weather should suit you just fine – with today’s bright sun and high of 84 giving way on Sunday to heavy rain and temperatures dropping into the low 50s.

That’s a 30-degree swing in less than a day.

“It’s going to turn really cold pretty quickly,” said Jim Mitchell, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Buffalo.

About 1 to 2 inches of rain are forecast over the next 48 hours, and then the temperature will make a slow climb during the week back up toward the 80s by the weekend. A broad storm bringing showers and thunderstorms was expected before midnight Saturday, with some of the storms producing heavy rain and patchy fog.

By Tuesday, partly sunny skies are expected to return.
