SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Hopefully the sun will be out Saturday because the Canisius College baseball team will be playing two during its NCAA Tournament appearance.
On a rainy Friday with no let up in sight, the Golden Griffins’ regional contest against host Missouri State was postponed until 1 p.m. Saturday.
The Bears (45-10) have won 16 straight, while the Griffs (34-28) own a five-game winning streak. If Canisius wins, it plays No. 2-seed Iowa (40-16) at 9 p.m. Saturday. If the Griffs lose their opener, they play No. 3 Oregon (37-24) at 5 p.m.
The rain reportedly was so bad that Ducks players didn’t even have time to change before being ushered into the team hotel’s tornado shelter following their game.
The Hawkeyes beat Oregon, 3-1, as Tyler Peyton tossed 7∑ innings, yielding just seven hits. Iowa had six hits but drew 10 walks as Nick Roscetti’s grounder plated the eventual winning run in the third inning.
