Quick hits: Bisons split doubleheader with Rochester

The Buffalo Bisons found some offense in the second half of a doubleheader to salvage a split Friday night at Coca-Cola Field.

The Herd dropped a 2-1 decision in the first game to the Rochester Red Wings but rebounded for a 4-2 win in the nightcap.

The Bisons batted around in the third inning, loading the bases with no outs. That set up a hit by Andy Burns, which scored a run after Rochester shortstop Argenis Diaz misplayed the ball. Dioner Navarro had a fluky hit to shallow right to score another run while Matt Hague belted a two-run single.

In the first game, Rochester took a 2-0 lead when Ryan Wheeler had a two-run shot in the second. Andy Burns cut the lead in half, drilling his first pitch over the left field fence.

Castro injured: Starter Miguel Castro left the game in the second inning. “He said his forearm was tight so just to be safe we got him out of there," Bisons manager Gary Allenson said." The Toronto Blue Jays tweeted that there was an issue with his right hand. He will be sent to a hand specialist and will undergo tests. Castro had just given up a two-run home run. He was making his fifth start with the Herd after being optioned by the Blue Jays. Castro pitched solely out of the Toronto bullpen and was being stretched out to return as a starter while with the Bisons.

MLB Rehab: Dioner Navarro continued his MLB rehab assignment. He started behind the plate and hit third, going 0 for 3 in the first game. As the designated hitter in the nightcap, he went 1 for 3 with an RBI single. Allenson said Navarro will catch nine innings Saturday and Devon Travis, who played Game 1 as a DH, will play second base for six innings. "It's hard after a couple of games here," Allenson said on evaluating the guys on MLB rehab. "The concentration level with big league rehab guys is not down here what it's going to be like at the top. ... It's not a really good read."

Pompey returns: Dalton Pompey was back after missing 10 days with a knee injury. He started in center and went 1 for 4 with a single and two strikeouts in the first game. He did not play Game Two.

Roster moves: The Blue Jays recalled right handed reliever Bo Schultz from the Bisons while right handed starter Scott Copeland was optioned back to the Herd. Schultz was 2-1 with a 1.69 ERA in 21 1/3 inings of work over 16 games. Copeland is 3-1 with a 2.43 ERA in six starts with the Herd.

All-Star Voting: Online fan voting for the Triple-A All-Star Game opened Friday and runs through June 26. Fan balloting counts for one-third of the total vote to determine the starting lineups for both All-Star teams. The Triple-A All-Star Game will be held July 15 in Omaha, Neb.

Milone has been the IL Pitcher of the Week for the last two weeks. He had 31 2/3 innings of scoreless work before giving up his first, and only, earned run of the season on Sunday. The Bisons are hosting Superhero Night at the Ballpark as the in-game promotion.
