Motorcyclist dies in collision with van in Niagara Falls

NIAGARA FALLS – A 32-year-old motorcyclist died late Thursday in a collision with a minivan, whose driver was charged with driving while intoxicated, according to city police.

The accident happened shortly before midnight on Niagara Falls Boulevard, near 66th Street. Police said the motorcycle was heading west when it collided with the van, which was eastbound before making a left turn into the parking lot of a restaurant.

The motorcyclist, whose name wasn’t released, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

After failing field sobriety tests, the 30-year-old woman driving the van was taken to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, where she consented to a blood-alcohol test. Police said the woman, whose name wasn’t released, was charged with driving while intoxicated.

Witness statements and evidence at the scene suggest the motorcycle was speeding, police said. An investigation continues by the Crash Management Team.
