The board of the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority unanimously approved a 5-year contract Thursday with firefighters at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport.
The agreement with the Buffalo Niagara Airport Firefighters Association is retroactive to April 1, 2013, and expires March 31, 2018. It provides aircraft rescue fighterfighters at the airport with no wage increase the first year of the contract; a 2 percent increase retroactive to 2014 the following year; and annual 2.5 percent raises in the third, fourth and fifth years.
About 35 officers represented in the agreement currently contribute 20 percent to the cost of their monthly health insurance premiums and will continue to do so over the life of the contract. The remaining seven members of the union who pay a 10 percent contribution with a cap will now pay 10 percent of their monthly premium cost without a cap. The cost of the agreement is about $202,753 over the five-year life of the contract, or about $40,550 a year.
The NFTA Board of Commissioners also voted to authorize new transportation pass agreements with SUNY Buffalo State College and Bryant & Stratton College, as well as an agreement with the City of Niagara Falls for a season Metro Bus trolley service.
