Niagara Falls man pleads guilty to sex offense with a minor

LOCKPORT – A Niagara Falls man charged with the statutory rape of a teenage girl agreed to a plea deal in Niagara County Court on Wednesday.

Arriel J. Pettigrew, 22, of Weston Avenue had been facing a third-degree rape charge in connection with the May 17, 2014 incident, but pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of sexual misconduct and admitted to the court that he had sexual intercourse with the victim without her consent.

Niagara County Court Judge Sara Sheldon said as a condition of the plea he will have to register as a sex offender. The count could have carried up to one year in Niagara County Jail, but as a condition of the plea he will be sentenced to six years of probation when he is sentenced on Aug. 21, said Sheldon.
