May 27, 1980: Prostitution is in the open on Chippewa Street -- but no violence, please

It’s well known that before it was the fun spot for college-aged bar hoppers, Chippewa Street was Buffalo’s red-light district.

If there’s any doubt about whether prostitution was a real issue on Chippewa Street, it’s cleared up in the comments of a bar owner who created a list of 18 prostitutes who were known to be violent pick-pockets and were no longer welcome in his gin mill.
