Words cannot change awful truth of abortion
The fact that a woman makes a decision to seek an abortion for personal reasons – reasons that others may not understand – in no way alters the fact that a majority of Christians understand abortion to be a moral evil. One can skew the results of the latest Pew Research Center findings from 2013 to find percentages that might suggest otherwise; however, the poll was conducted with a mere 1,502 adults. It seems that is hardly a sample large enough to cite percentages. However, one can cherry-pick the findings. For example, within the research one could also find this statement: “relatively small percentages of people in all religious, partisan and demographic groups say it is morally acceptable to have an abortion.”
Perhaps a recent letter writer’s interpretation of the research was with a mindset of playing on emotions, as in implying that anyone is perpetrating the “real evil of self-righteously forcing” pregnancy; or “walk with the Lord right over the bodies of our dead sisters.” Such statements cannot be accepted as anything more than ludicrous.
Facts are facts. Abortion is the killing of an unborn baby. I don’t need a Ph.D. to know that inflammatory arguments fail to change the truth of abortion being not only a moral evil but, with its proliferation, one of the greatest indicators of the downward slide our society has taken in how it treats the most vulnerable and precious members of our world.
