Albion woman arrested in theft of $15,000 from family member

ALBION – A 30-year-old Albion woman was arrested Tuesday by State Police for allegedly stealing more than $15,000 from the bank, credit and debit accounts of an elderly relative she had insisted on taking care of last fall.

Stacy A. Hamilton was released without bail after her arraignment on a felony count of third-degree grand larceny in Albion Town Court but pending further court proceedings June 2. She was also served a court order of protection barring her from trying to contact her alleged victim in any way, including through a third party, State Police officials reported.

From this past November and through April, Hamilton is accused of emptying the victim’s bank account, using the victim’s credit and debit cards and failing to pay the victim’s bills while taking the victim to the bank and grocery shopping with her and allegedly supplying her alleged victim with what State Police Officials described as “minimal” amounts of groceries. If convicted she faces a state prison term of up to seven years on the felony count, officials said.
