A second NEXUS inspection lane for pre-approved travelers was opened Tuesday by the Canada Border Services Agency on the Ontario side of the Peace Bridge, the Buffalo and Fort Erie Public Bridge Authority reports.
The additional lane will be open from 6 to 9 a.m. every day and from 2 to 7 p.m. Monday to Friday. Officials will evaluate it after 30 days to determine whether to continue it. The existing NEXUS lane in Fort Erie is open around the clock.
More than 160,000 low-risk travelers have been enrolled in the program through processing centers in Niagara Falls and Fort Erie, Ont. NEXUS lanes, which reduce waits for border crossings, also operate at the Whirlpool Bridge and the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge.
