May 26, 1980: Making lo-fi instant photos the old-fashioned way

These days, millions of photos are cropped into a square and run through a low-fidelity filter before being posted on social media sites like Instagram.

Of course, the original square, lo-fi, off color photos came spitting out of cameras like the one for sale at AM&A’s 35 years ago this week.

While the cropping and filter selection of Instagram seems like more work than just hitting button on the Polaroid One Step, at least the current generation of photographers doesn’t have to shake their digital images to come alive.
